Zine Review - The Great Activity
September 24th 2008 15:25
Subtitled: Love and Enlightenment, A zine on the intersection of Buddhism and Polyamory. The great activity is a zine that shows the powerful unity between two understated practices, Buddhism and Polyamory. Heidi’s perspective shows is that these two perspectives can perfectly marry (pun intended) one another on mental, physical, and most importantly, spiritual grounds. She includes writings from her blog, Really Long Link and leads with a powerful article, “The Multiplicity of No-Self”. Her writing is blunt without being rude, makes a powerful case for both simplicity and learning. Deeper in, we are educated by Hyakujo’s Fox, and Heidi’s honesty in dealing with her own karma. After that, the evolution to polyamory is a next, almost perfectly logical state. Powerful poetry appears later in this zine, as well as four tenants, identified as, ‘Key Ingredients’ to living with these two belief systems in harmony. She speaks of Jealousy, Falling in love, and tools for relationships, and ends with a clear Glossary for those of us who aren’t literate in Buddaspeak, books and links as well. Tastes like: A buttery cracker, light, but full of flavor.
